Entry #9: Prices in the food industry
Blog entry #9
In the food industry, there is always something that everyone thinks about. The common denominator is prices and inflation in the food industry. I read the prompt for this assignment about large topics in the food industry. The first thought that came into my head is how ridiculous the food prices have been recently. I found a comic that ridicules the recent prices and will be analyzing the cartoon.

There is a famous saying that says "Money makes the world go round." While this may not be completely true, there is some truth to it. Humans value their money because if they didn't, they wouldn't work forty hours a week for it, so when the same amount of food costs more money then people don't like that. It is no surprise that inflation has been affecting the food market really hard recently. In August 2022 the rate of inflation of 11.4% according to usinflationcalculator. Since the pandemic, prices have risen around 56%, which is astonishing! It's no wonder why it seems that we need to rush to get groceries before the prices go up.
This cartoon pokes fun at how much the prices have increased by showing a family rushing so fast to get to register to pay for their groceries. They are going so fast and to illustrate this, the author shows their hair is flying back and items falling out of their grocery cart. This cartoon illustrates just how hard these price hikes are for the average American. It shows that Americans are struggling and we need to find a way to stabilize the prices.
The recent economic conditions and rising inflation have put a lot of stress on the average consumer. This cartoon does a good job at highlighting to what the average American is feeling. After analyzing the current market conditions and how this cartoon applies to it, has made me realize the insanity of the situation.

The increase of grocery prices is something that I thought about writing about as well. It is crazy I will be cleaning out my room and find old receipts and within just a few months some of the items I have purchased already jumped up 50 cents to a dollar. Where I work I am constantly having to relabel items that have had their price increase, and a lot of it is stuff that shouldn't even be increased it's just corporate greed.
ReplyDeleteHey Nicholas! I really enjoyed reading this blog post. The picture made me laugh, but in all seriousness, inflation has been insane on food prices. I remember working at Fry's, and the egg prices nearly doubled. People would rush to get cheaper eggs or even eggs on sale. Some of my older coworkers who didn't have enough money to get by would have to snag the eggs on sale. Unfortunately, these prices have severely impacted hard-working families, so I'm glad you shed light on this topic!
